BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 10. Peter Stano, Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Commission, highlighted the important measures needed for developing transport connectivity in Tajikistan, in an interview with Trend.

"For example, the EU’s Study on Sustainable Transport Connections between Europe and Central Asia recognizes the importance of establishing a logistics center at the Fatehabad border crossing point and electrifying the northern railway line (between the nation's Khujand and the Uzbek border), which should also be extended to the Sughd Economic Zone and the northern part of the region to link Tajikistan’s key production and export centers with the regional transport networks," he explained.

Stano further elaborated that the EU is in the process of establishing a Coordination Platform to promote the mobilization of funding among potential investors, and a technical assistance program is being prepared to support feasibility studies aimed at making projects financially viable.

Moreover, Stano highlighted the importance of Tajikistan’s participation in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), emphasizing that the TITR extends beyond being an alternative land route for transporting goods between Asia and Europe.

"It should take a network approach and meet the need for Central Asian countries to connect better with each other so that increased cargo flows in the region can bring sustainable economic benefits to the entire region," he emphasized.
