Digital wallet usage gains traction in Tajikistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 16. Tajikistan has seen a surge in the number of digital wallets, hitting a whopping 10.4 million across 23 financial institutions by June 30, 2024, Trend reports via the National Bank of Tajikistan.

According to the report, this data indicates a 39 percent growth as compared to the same date in 2023, with 2.9 million wallets added.

Digital wallets processed 8.625 million cashless transactions from January through June 2024, up 16.2 percent from the same period in 2023. With a 45.6 percent increase from the same period last year, the total volume of transactions reached 1.212 billion somoni, which is more than $113 million.

Additionally, from January to June 2024, the country saw over 300.6 million payments totaling 1.141 trillion somoni ($106 billion) through various payment methods, including interbank transfers, direct correspondent relations, and accounts with the National Bank of Tajikistan. This represents an 86.6 percent increase in the number of payments and a 47.5 percent increase in the total volume compared to the previous year.
