DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 18. Tajikistan is interested in the use of nuclear technologies for the development of industry, the statement of Tajikistan's Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency of the National Academy of Sciences said, Trend reports.
Director of the Agency Ilhom Mirsaidzoda is taking part in the 68th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is held from September 16 through 20, 2024 in Vienna.
Tajikistan's delegation also includes Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies Aziz Nazar and Head of Tajikistan's Permanent Mission to the IAEA Idibek Kalandar.
“Within the framework of the conference, Professor Ilhom Mirsaidzoda will hold high-level meetings with international colleagues, where he will emphasize Tajikistan's readiness to strengthen its capabilities in the field of nuclear safety and security,” the statement emphasizes.
Moreover, it is expected that Idibek Kalandar will make efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with key international partners.
To note, Tajikistan became a member of the IAEA in 2001. The Agency for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (ANRS) was established in 2003 and is responsible for ensuring nuclear and radiation safety. The Agency was renamed the Agency for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Safety and Security (ACBRNS) in 2021 as it was given additional chemical and biological safety functions.
