Two Norwegians die in car accident in Tajikistan

( RIA Novosti ) - Two Norwegians died after being hit by a speeding car in the Tajik capital, a local police spokesman said Friday.

A Norwegian counselor at the OSCE security center and his colleague were hit by the vehicle while on a pedestrian crossing in Dushanbe. The accident happened at 11:30 p.m. Moscow time Thursday.

Although the two Norwegian citizens were immediately hospitalized, they died of their injuries early Friday, the OSCE center said.

The police in Dushanbe said the driver, who was driving at a speed of around 150km per hour ( 93 miles per hour) failed to brake in time. The driver attempted to help the victims.

A criminal case has been opened, and an investigation is underway.
