Turkmen President, European Commission Head hold talks

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso as a part of Barroso’s visit to Turkmenistan. The sides held talks at the "Fireplace Room" of the Oguzkent hotel, the Turkmen agency TurkmenPress reported.

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso as a part of Barroso's visit to Turkmenistan. The sides held talks at the "Fireplace Room" of the Oguzkent hotel, the Turkmen agency TurkmenPress reported.

The two leaders shook hands exchanging warm greetings and expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to discuss in detail the aspects of collaboration and prospects of the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues concerning international and regional politics, state and prospects of development of the Turkmenistan-EU partnership in the context of existing and emerging long-term projects and programs.

Berdimuhammedov and Barroso discussed the implementation of earlier agreements and reiterated their mutual interest in taking the traditional cooperation to a qualitatively new level, giving it a more stable dynamics corresponding to the global interests and the dictates of time.

Following the narrow-format meeting, which lasted three times longer than was required by the Protocol, the talks were continued in the Congress Hall in the enlarged format with the participation of delegations of Turkmenistan and the European Commission.

The talks are focused on the ability to supply Turkmen gas to European direction.
