Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will launch a two-day official visit to Turkmenistan today, the Turkmen government reported.
"The upcoming talks between Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov and President Yanukovych will signify another significant step toward further developing a constructive international partnership to build on the principles of mutual goodwill, long-term mutual advantage; and now moving into a qualitatively new zone," the report reads.
The presidents are expected to sign important intergovernmental documents following the talks.
Ashgabat and Kiev identified the major priorities for international cooperation to be trade, energy, transport, and communications. Both countries show interest in industry, civil society, road construction, sports, and tourism.
Diplomatic relations were established on Oct. 10, 1992. The countries have exchanged embassies in 1995.
