The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov has met with the head of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Zhou Jiping, the Turkmen government said.

During the meeting a mutual desire to strengthen interaction based on principles of equality, respect for mutual interests and mutual benefit was expressed.

The report says views were exchanged on partnerships in the energy sector, 'the result of which are important joint projects, including the biggest of the century, the construction of the longest transnational gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China in Eurasia'.

Turkmen gas exports to the Chinese market first began moving via the international gas pipeline passing through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in 2009. It was built by CNPC, which has a licence for the extraction of raw materials on the Turkmen right-hand of Amu Darya.

As the Chinese media outlets reported, the country is expected to have received 17 billion cubic meters of gas from the Central Asia this year. Moreover, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region may also get access to imports of the fuel in 2012.

About 40 Chinese backed operations trade in Turkmenistan and about 60 investment projects involving Chinese firms are registered in this country.
