Deputy UN Secretary General, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Jan Kubis, is on a working visit to Turkmenistan, the Turkmen government reported.

Kubis visits the country to participate in a forum organized in the framework of United Nations Special Programme for Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in Ashgabat.

Kubis said the SPECA Economic Forum will allow participants to exchange views and jointly identify ways to improve regional cooperation.

The SPECA participants are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Over the past 20 years, these countries have adopted comprehensive plans for economic liberalization and market reforms, whose implementation runs in different paces.

The forum noted that the integration of Central Asia into the global economy becomes a key role in successfully combating the economic, social and political challenges.

"The growing importance of regional cooperation also affects countries' competitiveness in rapidly changing processes of the global economy," the forum organizers reported.

The forum will develop recommendations for further actions to strengthen the political, legal and institutional framework for regional economic cooperation.
