OSCE discusses national laws on media outlets in Ashgabat

A "round table" within the project "Facilitating the process of improving legislation on media outlets" is underway in Ashgabat on these days, the state news agency Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary reported on Tuesday.

A "round table" within the project "Facilitating the process of improving legislation on media outlets" is underway in Ashgabat on these days, the state news agency Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary reported on Tuesday.

The meeting is organized by the Turkmen Government and Ashgabat Centre of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović arrived in Ashgabat to attend the discussions.

Participants will hear reports on the main international standards, norms and practices of other countries in mass media, as well as commentaries of the OSCE experts to existing laws regulating this sphere and recommendations for their improvement.

The report says, according to representatives of this authoritative international organization, "study of advanced international practices in this sphere is of great importance for further development of media outlets, as well as modernization of legislation in this sphere".

The sides stood for strengthening of the fruitful partnership in this sphere, and discussed possible variants of cooperation in this regard.
