Turkmenistan to take part in UN environmental conference in Brazil

Turkmenistan plans to take part in the UN international conference on Sustainable Development which will be organized in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution in Brazil in 2012, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Saturday.

The conference is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the UN first summit on environment and sustainable development.

As many as 178 governmental delegations that approved of concept of sustainable development and considered it necessary to solve environmental, economical and social problems in mutual concert, seeking for balance of all components, arrived to participate in the first summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

Also a number of basic and environmentally important conventions and documents were signed - on struggle against desertification, climate change, preserving of biodiversity.

"The main achievement of the summit is action plan for the 21st century, where it was noted that mankind has a right to healthy and productive life in harmony with nature. Importance of this conference is huge since it leads to establishment of national and international organizations in the sphere of environmental protection," the article said.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as a new structure of environmental responsibility was established in this period. It was announced that protection of the environment is the main task which affects human life and economical development on the planet.
