President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is on an official visit to Turkey, the Turkmen government said.

On Wednesday Mr Berdimuhamedov will hold talks with Turkish President Abdullah Gul. The agenda includes the priority issues of interstate cooperation and the possibility of its further diversification. 'Inter-state partnership which is being built with expectation for long-term prospect is a full-scale prospect', the report says. Both sides are expected to sign a package of bilateral documents.

On February 29, the President of Turkmenistan is expected to visit the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Also on the agenda is the opening of the Turkmenistan Park in Ankara and the monument to the great Turkmen poet and philosopher Makhtumkuli.

Mr Berdimuhamedov will visit Istanbul where a joint business forum will be opened. He is reported to have said: "The forthcoming business forum is attracting great interest with the heads of many Turkish companies showing increased attention to the very promising Turkmen market. This in turn has created a favourable investment climate."

Turkey is amongst Turkmenistan's largest trading partners. With the participation of Turkish companies, a number of major projects including the construction of an industrial infrastructure as well as social and cultural are being implemented.

A significant role is being given for the activities of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Turkish commission for economic cooperation.

Area of cooperation in the tourism industry which rapidly developed in Turkmenistan due to a large scale project to create Avaz seaside resort on the Caspian coast is considered as being promising.
