Turkmenistan marks 20th anniversary of adoption of Constitution

Day of adoption of the Constitution - the basic law of the country figured in the national history as an important and decisive step towards building a democratic, legal, secular state of the Turkmen people. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov made this statement at the Cabinet meeting, the Turkmen government said on Friday.

May 18 marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of Turkmenistan's Constitution and the national holiday - Day of Revival, Unity and Poetry of Makhtymguly Fragi. This day is declared as a day off.

On Sept.26, 2008 Turkmenistan approved new edition of the Constitution, improved in accordance with today's demands and generally recognized norms of international law.

"It became an important event in social and political life of the country, which evidences our sovereign state's entry into new historical era," President Berdimuhammadov said.
