Latvian delegation to attend Turkmenbashi port to exchange experience

Latvian Transport Minister Aivis Ronis and the administrator of the major Riga free port Leonid Loginov have planned an official visit to Turkmenistan to get acquainted with work of the Turkmenbashi port, Russian media report.

"Turkmenistan is especially interested in experience of Latvian companies in construction of port infrastructure, as well as experience of managing Riga free port," Rosbalt said.

The two countries are researching cooperation potential in the field of development of Turkmenbashi Caspian port and logistics system. The agreement has been reached according to results of negotiations between Turkmen president Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedow and Latvian president Andris Berzins during the visit of Turkmen head of state to Riga on September 11-12.

The presidents underlined necessity of research in field of cooperation possibilities on land transit and route logistics between Turkmenistan and Latvia in order to develop effective and mutually beneficial solutions for fraud transportation.

Cooperation possibilities transport infrastructure forming, in particular, port construction were discussed during negotiations in Riga. Turkmen leader expressed his gratitude over a possibility to attend Riga free port during his visit.

"Latvia's experience in terms of plans on modernization of ports and construction of new multifunctional port at Caspian sea is very helpful for our country," Berdimuhamedow noted.

The volumes of mutual trade between countries are currently increasing. The mutual trade turnover has increased 1.5 times in comparison with previous year, reaching $125 million. This indicator is expected to increase twice.
