Turkmen-Romanian ministerial political consultations was held in Ashgabat, where the official Bucharest represented by First Deputy of Foreign Minister, Secretary of State for European Affairs Bogdan Aurescu, state information agency Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary said.
On the agenda were issues of raising of productive interaction between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
By opinion of participants of the meeting, new impetus to the strengthening and expansion of multifaceted cooperation between the states gave the recent official visit of Romanian President Traian Basescu to Ashgabat, said in information. Basescu was on official visit in Turkmenistan (11-12 October). During the visit was the signing of a package of documents, including a plan of action between the two foreign ministries for 2013-2014.
"During the meeting, the participants were unanimous in their desire to further strengthen the positive cooperation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Romania and outlined the next steps for bilateral dialogue meeting the goals and objectives of the Turkmen-Romanian mutually beneficial partnership," - said in information.
Two countries are primarily interested in cooperation in the energy sector. In a joint document, signed in October, a high-level referred importance of Turkmen energy resources to Europe. The parties agreed to "contribute to deepening the bilateral dialogue on energy security, respectively, for projects of natural gas from Turkmenistan to Europe."
Experts think that Turkmenistan where concentrated fourth-largest natural gas reserves in the world (after Russia, Iran and Qatar) route to Europe more attractive look across the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan.
Trans-Caspian pipeline infrastructure with its implementation, making it possible to connect, and on the long-term Caspian resources to the transnational scale project Nabucco, which was initiated by the EU to diversify its sources of energy.
Turkmenistan showed interest in the spring to the gas pipeline project AGRI, Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (AGRI), that will be supplied liquid form Caspian gas through the Black Sea coast of Georgia to Romania. In the framework of Turkmenistan could supply liquefied natural gas across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan for further transit to Europe.
