Turkmenistan, Iran hold ministerial consultations

Bilateral Turkmen-Iranian consultations between foreign ministries were held at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan. An Iranian delegation led by the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Erakchi arrived in Ashgabat to attend them.

Bilateral Turkmen-Iranian consultations between foreign ministries were held at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan. An Iranian delegation led by the country's Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Erakchi arrived in Ashgabat to attend them.

At the talks held in an open and constructive atmosphere, the sides stressed the high level of confidence in relations between Turkmenistan and Iran, which are based on the traditional and centuries-old principles of good neighbourliness and mutual respect owing to goodwill of the two friendly countries' peoples. It was noted that thanks to the regular meetings between Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, interstate dialogue at the current stage is characterized by great mutually beneficial prospects of cooperation.

The sides discussed issues relating to cooperation, particularly in the socio-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as implementation of the agreements reached earlier at the highest and government levels.

Enhancing of interaction within influential international organizations was another topic of the talks. In this context, Seyed Abbas Erakchi underlined the importance of the resolution of the UN General Assembly to elect Turkmenistan to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2013-2015, saying that constructive international initiatives put forward by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov to establish favourable conditions for the general sustainable development find the most wholehearted support of the international community.
