Turkmenistan to be represented at world energy forum in Abu Dhabi

A Turkmen delegation will participate in the sixth World Future Energy Summit that will be held in the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi from January 15-17, the Turkmen government announced today.
The annual event is put on by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Emirati government.
The agenda includes energy security, alternative energy development, the use of renewable energy sources, and the active introduction of so-called "clean technologies" in various sectors and industries.
A Turkmen delegation will be represented by the State Agency for the Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources under the Turkmen President.
The Turkmen leader stressed that a key aspect of Turkmenistan's policy is the establishment of broad international cooperation in all major areas, including the energy sector.
In regards to gas reserves, Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world after Russia, Iran and Qatar.
The country recently intensified research on alternative energy sources. Last year, Turkmenistan created its first sample of silicon from quartz sand using solar energy.
Employees of the local Sun Institute developed the autonomous solar-wind complex capable of providing distant pastures with water and energy during the year.
According to international experts, Turkmenistan can establish solar battery production, which will allow for significant savings. It is necessary for Turkmenistan to expand production to produce and meet the needs of its own solar modules and solar power plants in the future.
Turkmenistan's natural and climatic conditions allow for the use of sun and wind energy almost year round.
A sunny day lasts six hours in Turkmenistan in July. The energy of sun rays per one square meter is 800 watts. There are some 300 sunny days a year and the total duration of sunshine hits 2,500-3,000 hours.
Local media previously reported that Turkmenistan plans to establish large-scale wind and solar energy complexes. They will include solar photovoltaic stations, solar photobioreactors, wind and solar units for waste disposal and solar collectors.
