Chairman of the Majlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan, Akzha Nurberdiyeva received credentials from the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, Michal Labenda, the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the diplomat became acquainted with the structure and legislative activities of the national parliament. Such areas as trade, science, education and tourism were identified as the priority areas of cooperation.

The ambassador expressed "Poland's aspiration to enhance constructive interstate dialogue with Turkmenistan in all areas, including the establishment of broad inter-parliamentary relations".

The government's report also provides a letter from the President of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski addressed to the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

"Mr Michal Labenda's personal qualities and merits guarantee that he will do everything to strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two countries while fulfilling his noble mission," the letter said.

Europe is tied with Turkmenistan through the Nabucco gas pipeline project. At this stage negotiations with the EU and Azerbaijan which may become a party to a joint Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project as a transit state, are underway.
Turkmenistan sells gas from its sector and its significant reserves of fossil fuels are confirmed by independent foreign auditors.

Poland has a favourable geographical position in the centre of Europe, which allows a developing transit route for energy supplies from the Caspian region to Europe, being an important stimulus for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
