President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to visit Turkmenistan at any convenient time, the Turkmen government said on Tuesday.

The invitation was accepted with gratitude, the report said. Dates of the visit will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.

This topic was addressed during a telephone conversation, which took place at the initiative of Russia.

The two Presidents expressed confidence in the further strengthening and deepening of an equal and mutually respectful partnership built on a long-term, mutually beneficial basis.

"Speaking of the need to strengthen cooperation on a wide range of areas, the sides prioritized the fuel and energy sector, the trade and economic sphere, transport, urban development, agriculture and many other areas, where a combination of effort seems most promising," according to the government report .

The two leaders also noted "enormous potential, creating new and exciting opportunities for joint projects."

During the conversation, the sides touched upon the issues of international and regional issues of mutual interest.

As noted, the similarity of views on contemporary issues and constructive political dialogue and mutual support in the international arena allow Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation to actively and effectively communicate not only bilaterally but also multilaterally, particularly in the framework of the large reputable organizations and structures including the CIS.

Russia leads the ranking of the largest trade partners of Turkmenistan. In recent years, cooperation has intensified with major regions of the Russian Federation, including Tatarstan, St. Petersburg, Astrakhan and Sverdlovsk regions, as well as other subjects of the Russian Federation.

The largest training and commercial service centre of KAMAZ in Central Asia is located in Ashgabat as the total number of car models of the brand in Turkmenistan is more than 10,000.

The cooperation is being developing in the fuel and energy complex: the Russian Gazprom regularly purchases Turkmen gas, Tatneft JSC conducts works in the western region of Turkmenistan, Itera is involved in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.
