Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Chinese President Xi Jinping will exchange views on issues of mutual interest during Tuesday's negotiations, a source close to the negotiations told Trend.
The Chinese president begins his Central Asian tour from September 3 to September 13 in Turkmenistan. His visit to the country will last from September 3 to September 4.
"This meeting of the two countries' leaders will be the first in a new historical period and be another important event in the history of bilateral relations," a Turkmen media outlet reported on Tuesday.
An official Beijing source said earlier that the heads of the two states will "determine a range of concrete strategic tasks aimed at long term prospects and will sign a package of bilateral documents" during the visit.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992. Important political documents were signed during that period. A joint declaration on the comprehensive strengthening of Turkmen-Chinese friendship and cooperation signed in November 2011 is of particular significance.
Currently, Turkmen-Chinese interactions are regulated on a legal basis including over 135 documents signed at interstate, intergovernmental and interagency levels.
Around 22 Chinese enterprises operate in Turkmenistan which participates in about 65 joint projects. Bilateral cooperation in the spheres of energy, transport, communication and the textile industry has been developed.
Turkmenistan plans to open its trade mission in China.
