"The Iranian government, as well as all Iranian people, consider Turkmenistan as a good neighbor and a reliable partner," Larijani said at a meeting.

While conveying the wishes to Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani, the Turkmen leader said that Turkmenistan also attaches great importance to strengthening the traditionally friendly relations with neighboring countries, including Iran.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the prospects of partnership and called for strengthening the inter-parliamentary relations.

Larijani held a meeting at the Turkmen Mejlis and planned to deliver a lecture at the State University of Magtymguly. The Iranian delegation will also visit the regional center - the city of Mary.

Iran and Turkmenistan have a common land border.

Two countries are connected by a number of major economic projects. There are two common gas pipelines, a power line, a border dam and others. Currently, the North -South railway corridor construction project, which will significantly reduce the way to the Persian Gulf for the Central Asian countries, is being implemented.

The oil and gas sector is a strategic direction of cooperation. Turkmenistan has been transporting natural gas to the northern provinces of Iran since 1995.
