Around 45.93 percent of voters have voted in Turkmenistan's parliamentary elections as of 11:00, the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CEC) of Turkmenistan said.
Voting began at 7.00am local time for over three million voters nationwide. The polling stations will close at 19:00.
In accordance with the Constitution of Turkmenistan, the election of deputies to the Majlis (parliament) of Turkmenistan is being held on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot.
National observers from the country's political parties and public organisations, as well as international experts and observers from OSCE and CIS have been invited to the elections.
The term of office of MPs is five years.
