Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Nov.4
By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:
Turkmenistan expressed its willingness to provide political space of the country for peace talks between all constructive and responsible forces of Afghanistan, the report of the government of Turkmenistan said Nov.4.
Turkmen delegation made the remarks in Beijing while attending the 4th conference of the Foreign Ministers of the Istanbul Process on Afghanistan.
Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov stressed in his speech that at this stage, one of the main objectives of the international community in Afghanistan is to facilitate the process of intra-Afghan settlement.
In this context, the minister said that the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov expressed his country's readiness to support the steps in this direction and, if necessary, to provide the political space of Turkmenistan for peace talks between all constructive and responsible forces of Afghanistan.
It was also noted that another important issue, without which it is difficult to talk about stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan, is the restoration and development of the economic and social development in the country.
"The Turkmen side believes that international assistance in this matter should be effective, targeted and specific," the report said.
Turkmenistan has a long border with Afghanistan and Central Asian countries regularly host events in the border security sphere under the auspices of the UN. The possible consequence of reducing the international forces for ensuring regional security in Afghanistan has become one of the key issues.
A large-scale project that would see the construction of a gas pipeline to India and Pakistan for the supply of Turkmen gas is related to Afghan territory. Observers believe that its implementation could contribute to the reconstruction of Afghanistan, since it will create jobs and provide the country with a guaranteed income for transit.
