WB reveals forecast for Turkmenistan’s GDP growth for next three years

Turkmenistan's GDP growth in the next three years (2016-2018) is forecasted at 5 percent, according to the Global Economic Prospects, June 2016 of the World Bank (WB).

Turkmenistan's GDP growth exceeded 6 percent in January-May 2016, according to the data issued by the country's authorities.

The WB said in the report posted on its website that the growth rate of Turkmenistan's GDP stood at 6.5 percent in 2015.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players on the energy market of the Caspian Sea region. The country produces around 70-80 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Ashgabat pursues the policy of economic diversification. The country devaluated its national currency, manat, in January 2015, reduced the investment spending and subsidies and strengthened the regulation and supervision over the banking sector.
