Turkmen president: Relations with Russia of special nature

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Federation Council Ilyas Umakhanov in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news service reported.
During the meeting, the Turkmen president noted the special nature of relations with Russia, which has always been and will remain one of Turkmenistan’s strategic partners, the message says.
Umakhanov congratulated Berdimuhamedov on his convincing victory in the presidential election held Feb. 12.
Turkmenistan and Russia were able to generate an extensive and reliable legal base of the interstate relations, which directly contributes to the progressive development of constructive dialogue, according to the message.
Umakhanov expressed confidence that in the future, the existing economic and resource potential will allow broadening the spectrum of cooperation and designate new areas for it.
The sides also exchanged views on prospects of development of relations between the two countries in the international arena.
“Mutual understanding, huge political trust and similarity of positions on key aspects of the international agenda let the parties successfully cooperate on a bilateral and multilateral basis, primarily within major international organizations and institutions, including the UN and the CIS,” reads the message.
Russia ranks first in the list of Turkmenistan’s largest foreign trade partners. More than 190 enterprises were registered in the Turkmen market with participation of the Russian capital. These enterprises implement more than 240 investment projects.
