Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has signed a decree exempting certain types of goods imported into the country from customs duties, the Turkmen government said in a message.

The document was adopted in order to continue the work carried out in Turkmenistan on state support for manufacturers of import-substituting and export-oriented products, further development of the domestic poultry industry, according to the message.

The document is aimed at effective use of all available opportunities for increasing the output of import-substituting products.

“Representatives of the private sector are being actively attracted to solving these tasks,” the Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.

Earlier, Berdimuhamedov said that further increasing the role of entrepreneurship in the national economy is determined as one of the key directions in the program for social and economic development of Turkmenistan for 2018-2024.

Practical actions in industry and agriculture should be directed both at import substitution and accelerated development of production using qualitatively new technologies, he said.

That is, these actions should be directed not only at solving the current tasks, but also to ensure Turkmenistan’s economic and food security in the future, Berdimuhamedov noted.
