President: Turkmen military doctrine is of defensive nature

Turkmenistan, successfully implementing the military doctrine of a purely defensive nature, will continue to pay great attention to strengthening the material and technical base of all military branches, Turkmen government said in a message citing the Turkmen president, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Turkmen Armed Forces Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's speech at a session of the country’s State Security Council Nov. 2.
In particular, the Turkmen president mentioned the strengthening of sovereignty, constitutional system, territorial integrity, economic potential of the country and prevention of global threats among the current activities of the Ministry of National Security of the country.
The president also noted that one of the urgent tasks of national defense is the re-equipment of the Turkmen Armed Forces with the latest types of military equipment.
According to the military doctrine adopted by Turkmenistan, the country follows the status of positive neutrality and is does not enter any military-political blocs.
