Turkmen president expected to visit Kyrgyzstan

First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Nuran Niyazaliev has met with Ambassador of Turkmenistan Shadurdy Meredov, Trend reports referring to the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry Sept. 4.

Issues on the cooperation agenda, as well as the interaction of the two countries as part of regional and international organizations were discussed. Niyazaliev stressed the importance of the visit of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Kyrgyzstan.

The parties also discussed the relevant issues of holding the 4th meeting of the Kyrgyz-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation.

In June, the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security of the Kyrgyz Parliament approved two draft laws with the government of Turkmenistan.

In particular, the agreement between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan on the elimination of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion with respect to taxes on income was ratified.

In addition, a draft law on ratification of the agreement between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan on cooperation in the field of emergency prevention and response was submitted for consideration.

The documents themselves were signed on August 23, 2018 in Ashgabat within the official visit by Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov. During the visit, a declaration on strategic cooperation, strengthening friendship and trust between Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan was concluded.

It was reported that Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan discussed the prospects for cooperation in the creation of processing enterprises.

The parties agreed to support the creation of joint ventures aimed at the markets of the EU, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and China. Kyrgyzstan is also negotiating with the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan to look for opportunities to increase trade.

Turkmenistan is ready to consider the possibility of joint mining and processing of minerals in Kyrgyzstan. The parties are discussing the prospects of partnership in industry and transport.
