Turkmenistan and UNDP (United Nations Development Program) will begin the implementation of the second phase of the project to continue assisting national efforts to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.
The mentioned issue was discussed at the final meeting of the Council of the "Platform for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals" project, which is being implemented in Turkmenistan jointly by UNDP and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of the country.
According to the information, the project started in 2018 and is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan as a responsible body for coordinating the implementation and monitoring of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and providing assistance to the State Committee of reporting on the SDGs.
It was noted that the project contributed to accelerating the process of achieving the SDGs in Turkmenistan, namely, improving the system of coordination and assistance in the preparation of the national SDG report; enhancing capacity to integrate the SDGs into the process of formulating national development programs and financial plans; creating a database on SDGs and increasing the national statistical capacity of the country.
It is reported that the project served as a platform for integrating the efforts of other UN agencies and sectoral ministries and departments of Turkmenistan on specific goals and objectives corresponding to their competence, and ensured the interconnection and integrity of all goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development.
Thus, given the strategic importance of the project objectives and the successful results of its implementation, it was decided to launch the second phase of the project to continue to support national efforts to achieve the SDGs.
"The UNDP Country Office is ready to continue the strategic partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan to strengthen national capacity to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development without leaving anyone behind," UNDP Program Officer in Turkmenistan Rovshen Nurmukhamedov said.
