Russia plans to increase imports of agricultural products from Turkmenistan, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Victoria Abramchenko said, Trend reports citing the press service of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

It is reported that Abramchenko announced the relevance of increasing imports of agricultural products from the CIS countries to reduce the growth rate of food prices.

“First, it is planned to increase supplies from Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Belarus,” the message says.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued an instruction to increase the supply of fruits and vegetables from the CIS countries.

In the text of the instruction, it was noted that the growth of imports will ensure the stabilization of prices for food products and stimulate the development of national agricultural producers by increasing competition. In addition, some product shortages will be covered at the expense of other countries.

According to the information, as of August 10, 2021, Turkmenistan increased the supply of fruits and vegetables to Russia by 93 percent, from 16,900 tons to 32,700 tons.

In particular, Turkmenistan has significantly increased the volume of tomato supplies to Russia - from 16,400 tons to 31,900 tons, which is 94 percent more than the same period in 2020. In addition, imports of Turkmen carrots increased - from 40 tons to 302 tons in 2021.
