Turkmenistan, Iran discuss issues on boosting transport communication

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held political consultations with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan, Trend reports on Oct.27 citing Business Turkmenistan.

The parties discussed issues related to the boosting of transport communication and also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding mutually beneficial Turkmen-Iranian dialogue on a wide range of areas of mutual interest.

Discussing transport issues, the diplomats expressed the need to intensify interaction between the two countries in the direction of Turkmenbashi-Bender-Anzali in order to build up the potential of maritime shipments.

Besides, they spoke about the relevancy of regional cooperation aimed at ensuring peace, security and sustainable development.

The ministers also pointed out the beginning of the successful functioning of another checkpoint on the Turkmen-Iranian border, normalization of sanitary and epidemiological indicators.

In order to implement the Joint Program of Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and Iran for 2021-2022, the parties agreed to hold the next round of political consultations in the first quarter of 2022 in Ashgabat.

On the same day, Meredov was received by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. During the meeting, the parties expressed mutual interest in further intensifying contacts on the platform of regional and international structures.
