BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 26. The International Road Transport Union (IRU) actively supports digitalization in the customs sphere of Turkmenistan, a source in the IRU told Trend.

"As commercial transportation by air and sea was restricted by strict sanitary measures during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, road transport has become even more important to keep international supply chains moving," said the source.

Meanwhile, efforts to maintain the integrity of supply chains while limiting physical contact between transport workers and border services have led to increased digitalization in the customs sphere of Turkmenistan.

"At the same time, in order to increase economic indicators, Turkmenistan needs to continue to work on the introduction of digital systems, use existing UN Conventions and IT tools," IRU said.

Furthermore, the organization stressed that Turkmenistan and IRU have been cooperating fruitfully for more than two decades since the country joined the International Road Transport (TIR) Convention in 1996.
