BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. The construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline will provide residents of the region with gas at affordable prices, which will reduce the level of environmental pollution and contribute to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAP Pipeline Company Ltd Muhammetmyrat Amanov at the forum on attracting investments in the energy sector of Turkmenistan held from April 26 through 27 in Dubai (UAE).
He noted that according to the studies conducted, there is a clear increase in air pollution in low-income areas, where people are forced to consume low-quality fuel or use improvised means for cooking on an open fire.
According to him, the use of cleaner natural gas in everyday life can play an important role in the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, which provides for measures to reduce the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere.
TAPI gas pipeline is a trunk gas pipeline, with a length of 1,814 kilometers, which is supposed to be stretched along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India highway, from the Turkmen Galkynysh field to the city of Fazilka in India.
The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty on climate change. It was adopted by 196 Parties at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris, France. Its overarching goal is to hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
