ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, March 7. Turkmenistan intends to export a total of 1,835.3 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan this year, Trend reports.
This was announced by the Head of the Turkmen Energy Ministry’s International Electricity Projects Department in the TAP direction, Myrat Artykov, at the Turkmen-Afghan Business Forum in Ashgabat city.
He noted that in order to fully meet the demand for electricity from consumers in the Afghan provinces of Herat, Farah, and Kandahar, to promote the socio-economic development of the neighboring country and its successful integration into international economic relations, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) transmission line project was launched.
Furthermore, Artykov stressed that the investor in the project is Turkish Çalık Holding A.Ş, according to whose concept this project is planned to be implemented in three stages.
Meanwhile, the company's concept shows that at the first stage, it is planned to build a power transmission line from Mary HPP to Herat province with a length of 375 kilometers and a capacity of 220 kW; at the second, an energy line from Mary HPP to Quetta city in Pakistan with a length of 1,150 kilometers and a capacity of 500 kW; and at the third, a 220 kW power transmission line with a length of 575 kilometers from Herat province to Kandahar province in Afghanistan.
