BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23. The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) aims to attract investments in the tourism sector of Turkmenistan, a source in the UNWTO told Trend.
"UN Tourism, as a strategic partner of Turkmenistan, aims to attract leading financial institutions and private business circles to invest in the country’s tourism sector. Additionally, UN Tourism and the Turkmenistan Government view public-private partnerships as key contributors to the country’s tourism industry," the source said.
The organization noted that recently the UNWTO and Turkmenistan resumed cooperation and expressed a desire to actively increase it.
"During the official visit of the UN Tourism Secretary-General to Turkmenistan on March 27, 2024, both parties agreed to collaboratively develop a Tourism Development Strategy aimed at advancing tourism as a key driver for socio-economic progress," the source added.
Meanwhile, at the end of March this year, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili in Ashgabat city.
The President noted that Turkmenistan intends to further develop sustainable tourism, the goals of which coincide with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in order to achieve socio-economic progress and ensure environmental well-being.
