ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, June 18. Farmers in the Dashoguz region of Turkmenistan exceeded the plan for harvesting silkworm cocoons by 1.4 percent this season, Trend reports.
According to official data, farmers in the region have harvested 507 tons of silkworm cocoons this season instead of the planned 500 tons.
The successful implementation of this campaign depended on compliance by local hatcheries with established rules, which included disinfection of premises and the creation of optimal conditions for successful incubation.
In general, this year, farmers handed over more than 2,100 tons of silkworm cocoons to the state, thereby fully fulfilling the plan.
Overall, during the past year, farms across Turkmenistan harvested more than 2,300 tons of silkworm cocoons, substantially exceeding the target.
One of Turkmenistan's most important agricultural products is silk, which is predominantly produced in the Mary, Ahal, and Lebap regions.
The Ashgabat Silk Factory and the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association are among Turkmenistan's leading sericulture enterprises.
