ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 15. UNICEF has launched an initiative on efficient water use at the UN Building in Turkmenistan, Trend reports via UNICEF.
According to the information, the initiative is aimed at reducing freshwater consumption and introducing sustainable water management practices.
The UN estimates that about 14,000 to 17,000 liters of water are used annually for irrigation of the organization's territories in Turkmenistan, and the new system allows to significantly reduce this figure.
The wastewater pumping and treatment system will reduce freshwater use by 50 percent in summer and up to 90 percent in winter, using treated wastewater for irrigation and other needs.
“The world is facing growing climate challenges that affect Turkmenistan as well. This project demonstrates the potential for sustainable practices. It is a small initiative with far-reaching effects. We are not just saving water - we are investing in a green future,” said UNICEF's Chief Administrative Officer in Turkmenistan, Boris Ter-Semyonov.
Furthermore, the initiative will reduce water costs by up to 72 percent annually, confirming long-term investment in a green future and the fight against climate change.
