Ashgabat gets ready for elections

(Turkmenistan.ru) - Ashgabat is actively preparing for presidential elections scheduled for February 11, 2007. Municipal services are busy cleaning streets and squares and erecting posters with biographies and election programs of the candidates for presidency.

5 election districts with 136 polling stations were set up in Ashgabat. The city administration took active part in major overhaul of the poling stations premises and landscaping of adjoining territories, reports Trend.

The polling stations were in advance provided with reference literature and election guides, transparent ballot-boxes and brochures with the text of the law "On Election of President of Turkmenistan" in Turkmen and Russian languages, as well as colorful posters with biographies and election programs of the candidates for the highest state post. All district election commissions are very active these days. The list of commission members were published in Ashgabat newspapers.

According to the Ashgabat election commission, the Ashgabat election districts' staff for specification of the list of voters would pay particular attention to older people, disabled people and temporarily disabled persons. On the day of election, transportable ballot-boxes will be brought to their homes. Besides, those who are away on business or vacation will have an opportunity to cast their ballots earlier. As regards young voters who participate in election for the first time, the voting will be organized in a ceremonial way for them - they all will receive valuable gifts.
