PM: Uzbekistan intends to process up to 2/3 of ginned cotton production

At present, Uzbekistan processes more than one third of ginned cotton. This figure will increase up to two thirds of ginned cotton production for the nearest years by increasing the capacity of the textile industry, Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev said at the seventh International Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair "Cotton and textiles: market prospects" in Tashkent on Wednesday.

At present, Uzbekistan processes more than one third of ginned cotton. This figure will increase up to two thirds of ginned cotton production for the nearest years by increasing the capacity of the textile industry, Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev said at the seventh International Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair "Cotton and textiles: market prospects" in Tashkent on Wednesday.

Uzbek Prime Minister said that Uzbekistan has increased the textile production by 2.6 times, textile exports - three times for the last five years.

The fair has been held in Uzbekistan since 2005. It was organized by the Uzbek government with the assistance of the International Cotton Advisory Committee. About 660 foreign partners, representing 330 companies from 38 world countries are involved.
Over 800 samples of Uzbek cotton fiber will be demonstrated. Participants will have an opportunity to assess the quality of cotton, conclude direct sales contracts and discuss the routes of transportation.

Uzbekistan produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1-1.2 million tons of cotton fiber annually.
