The U.S. Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton will pay a working visit to Uzbekistan on Oct. 22 - 23, media outlets reported on Friday.
"Issues of enhancing and strengthening of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the U.S., urgent regional and international problems of mutual interest will be discussed during the visit," the report says.
It was reported that a preliminary agreement on Clinton's visit was reached during the Uzbek Foreign Minister Elyor Ganiyev's visit to the U.S. in late September.
During the meeting, Hillary Clinton and Elyor Ganiyev discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Central Asia. At the same time the U.S. Secretary of State stressed the key role of Uzbekistan in securing supply routes to Afghanistan and in supporting the efforts to rebuild Afghanistan.
In early December 2010, Hillary Clinton paid a short visit to Uzbekistan, during which the Uzbek-U.S. intergovernmental agreement on scientific and technical cooperation was signed.
