Salaries and pensions to be increased by 15 percent in Uzbekistan

The salaries of employees working in budgetary agencies and organizations and their pensions, social benefits and scholarships will be increased by an average of 15 percent in Uzbekistan starting August 15, 2013, Uzbek President Islam Karimov said today.

The salaries of employees working in budgetary agencies and organizations and their pensions, social benefits and scholarships will be increased by an average of 15 percent in Uzbekistan starting August 15, 2013, Uzbek President Islam Karimov said today.

According to the presidential decree, the minimum salary is set at 91,530 soums per month, the minimum old-age pension and allowances for those disabled from childhood is 179,020 soums, benefits for the elderly and disabled citizens without required work experience is 109,850 soums per month starting August 15.

The costs associated with the increase of salaries of employees of budgetary agencies and organizations, pensions, allowances and scholarships are made at the expense of the national budget and the Finance Ministry's off budget pension fund.

Self-supporting associations, enterprises and organizations will increase salaries in accordance with the minimum salary by increasing production efficiency and reducing the labor costs.

The minimum salary was previously increased by an average of 1.1 times in Uzbekistan on December 1, 2012. Then, the minimum salary was set at 79,590 soums per month, the minimum old-age pension and allowances for those disabled from childhood was set to 155,670 soums, benefits for the elderly and disabled citizens without required work experience was made to be 95,520 soums per month.

The official exchange rate is 2.098.56 soums/$1 on July 12.
