Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan sign intergovernmental agreements

About eight intergovernmental Uzbek-Turkmen documents have been signed during the visit of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov to Tashkent which started today.

About eight intergovernmental Uzbek-Turkmen documents have been signed during the visit of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov to Tashkent which started today.

The heads of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan signed a joint declaration which envisages the main principles and directions of bilateral cooperation, as well as confirming the necessity of deepening political interaction and developing cooperation between the two countries within the UN and other international organisations on the most important international and regional issues.

In addition, the document emphasises the importance of development of mutually beneficial trade and economic relations by increasing the volume and expansion of the commodity nomenclature of mutual trade, including the intensification of interactions of business circles of the two countries.

The sides also stressed the priority and strategic character of an expansion of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of transport and development of transit corridors ensuring the shortest and effective access to foreign markets and significance of implementation of agreements on the development of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman international transport corridor.

Alongside the joint declaration, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere for 2014-2015, as well as on cooperation in the field of emergency prevention and mitigation.

A framework agreement on cooperation was signed between Uzhimprom JSC and Turkmenhimiya State Concern.

Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange and the National Commodity Exchange of Turkmenistan signed a cooperation agreement. The Department on fighting tax, currency crimes and legalisation of criminal income under the Prosecutor-General's Office of Uzbekistan and Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan signed an agreement on cooperation in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The Uzbektourism national company and the State Committee for Tourism of Turkmenistan signed an agreement in the field of tourism.

In addition, the Uzbekistan National News Agency and State News Agency of Turkmenistan signed an agreement on cooperation and information exchange.

To date, around 150 documents constituted the legal framework of the bilateral relations.

The official visit of Turkmen president to Uzbekistan is continuing.
