Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia mull bilateral relations

Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and his Saudi Arabian counterpart Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir held negotiations, during which the sides discussed topical issues of bilateral relations within the visit of Uzbek delegation to Jeddah, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a message July 28.

The sides also exchanged views on the upcoming meeting’s agenda of the OIC (the Organization of Islamic Cooperation) Foreign Ministers Council, which is to take place in October of 2016 in Tashkent.

Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir praised Uzbekistan’s vision and approaches with regard to the country’s priorities within its chairmanship in the OIC Foreign Ministers Council that are united in the slogan “Education and enlightenment – path towards peace and creativity.”

Uzbek and Saudi Arabian foreign ministers noted the two sides’ interest in progressive development of bilateral cooperation in various spheres and successful holding of the upcoming 43rd session of the OIC Foreign Ministers Council in Tashkent.

Uzbek Foreign Minister also participated in a meeting of senior officials of the OIC member countries, where the preparation for the upcoming OIC meeting in October in Tashkent was discussed.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation was established in September of 1969 to ensure Islamic solidarity in social, economic and political spheres. The organization has 57 member states.

Uzbekistan became an OIC member in 1996.
