Uzbekistan signed the Paris agreement regulating measures of reducing carbon dioxide emission to atmosphere, said the Uzbek Foreign Ministry’s press service Apr. 20.
The document was signed by Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the US Bakhtiyor Gulyamov.
The signing ceremony, held in the UN headquarters, was also attended by Santiago Villalpando, chief of the Treaty Section in the UN Office of Legal Affairs.
During the ceremony, the UN official noted that climate change always remains the focus of the organization and international community, and realization of the Paris agreement is essential for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
The sides also expressed hope that the Paris agreement will be a roadmap for the UN members, helping reduce emissions and strengthen resilience to climate change.
