Uzbekistan Railways has abandoned the idea of building a ring train in Tashkent, replacing it with an elevated railway.

The company said in a message that given the technical and technological characteristics of the operation of electric trains, and the fact that electric trains are mostly used on more distant routes, it was decided to "put the metro trains on track".

The Metropolitan elevated railway is expected to be one of the most unique projects in the CIS area.

The construction period, taking into account the preparatory work, will be four years - from 2017 to 2021. The preliminary cost of the project is $422.3 million.

The new metro line will consist of 35 stations, and the total length of the tracks will be 52.1 kilometers. The new metro line will pass through the territory of eight districts of Tashkent.

Uzbekistan Railways said that the construction will be carried out taking into account the maximum preservation of the existing urban planning.

Moreover, the work is underway on the construction of the first land subway line in Tashkent in the Sergeli district.

The length of this direction is 7.1 kilometers, the total cost of the project is estimated at $170.1 million. In total, six ground stations are planned to be built from the existing Almazar station to the planned terminal station in the Sergeli district.

The work is also underway on the construction of the second stage of the Yunusabad line of the Tashkent Metro.
