Building materials import in Uzbekistan down

The volume of imports of building materials in Uzbekistan from January through October 2020 decreased by 11.9 percent compared to the same period in 2019, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan’s import of building materials for 10M2020 reached $974.5 million and amounted to 5.8 percent of its total volume. In the structure of imports, the main share is occupied by wood and wood products (48.1 percent), cement (10.8 percent), glass and glass products (5.2 percent), as well as asbestos (3 percent)

Committee reports that import of building materials is directly related to large-scale reforms in the field of improvement, in particular, housing construction, reconstruction, and improvement of settlements in Uzbekistan.

The largest volumes of imports of building materials were recorded for wood and wood products. So, imports for these commodity items for 10M2020 amounted to $469 million (a decrease of 7.3 percent).

The most noticeable decrease was noted for cement, the supply of which decreased by more than 1.3 times - from $139.8 million from January through October 2019 to $105.5 million in ten months of this year.
