Russia remains key consumer of Uzbek vegetables and fruits

Uzbekistan in 2020 has exported to Russia 355,200 tons of agricultural products worth $255.4 million with a specific weight of 25.3 percent in the total export volume, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the volume of exports of fruits and vegetables in 2020 amounted to 1.5 million tons and, in value terms, the export exceeded $1 billion. It was noted that the rate of decline, compared to the same period in 2019, amounted to 16.5 percent.

Some 768,300 tons of vegetables were exported in the amount of $400 million, as well as 402,300 tons of fruits and berries in the amount of $353.9 million. The rate of decline in value terms, compared to the same period in 2019, amounted to 15.1 percent and 13 percent, respectively.

Committee reported that the share of fruits and vegetables in total exports in 2020 amounted to 6.7 percent.

In addition, it was noted that that Russia and Kazakhstan have become key consumers of Uzbek fruits and vegetables.

Kazakhstan became the second major consumer of agricultural products from Uzbekistan, exporting 625,100 tons of vegetables and fruits worth $251.1 million with a share of 24.9 percent in the republican export of fruits.

Last year, half of the vegetables and fruits from Uzbekistan were shipped to these countries in volume and value terms.

Moreover, 136,800 tons of vegetables and fruits for $181.1 million (18 percent) were sent to Kyrgyzstan in 2020.

Also, 48.500 tons of fruits and vegetables were shipped to Pakistani consumers worth $75.5 million (7.5 percent).
