Uzbekistan, EAEU ready to increase investment and industrial co-op

Uzbekistan and Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) expressed readiness to implement joint comprehensive programs to increase investment cooperation and industrial cooperation, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

On March 15, 2021, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with the Chairman of the Board of the EEC Mikhail Myasnikovich and a member of the Board (Minister) for the trade of the EEC Andrey Slepnev within the framework of the visit of the government delegation of Uzbekistan to Russia.

It is reported that during the meeting, the growing international authority of the EAEU and the expanding geography of cooperation with foreign countries, and the positive trends in the development of economic partnership were emphasized. Thus, over the past four years, the volume of trade between Uzbekistan and the EAEU countries has grown by 75 percent.

Speaking about the prospects for further joint work, the parties voiced mutual adherence to the principles of mutually beneficial economic cooperation, equality, and consideration of national interests, as well as the implementation of joint measures to create additional opportunities for closer interaction of Uzbekistan with the EAEU countries in the investment, trade, economic and transport and logistics spheres.

Also, mutual readiness was expressed to implement joint comprehensive programs to increase investment cooperation and industrial cooperation, create conditions for unhindered mutual trade and increase the efficiency of using the transit potential of the region.

In this context, a format was determined for further work to simplify logistics and customs procedures, remove existing barriers, harmonize technical regulations and technical regulation norms, improve the qualifications of specialists in the field of customs and tariff and non-tariff regulation, as well as develop and implement measures aimed at simplifying labor migration and ensuring the protection of the rights of labor migrants.

Furthermore, the parties discussed the prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Eurasian Development Bank, and the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development.
