Uzbekistan textile and garment industry Association (Uztekstilprom) and Malaysian Textile Manufacturers Association (MTMA) agreed on attracting potential Malaysian companies to create new products of ready-made garments in Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Kuala Lumper (Malaysia).

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the city of Kuala Lumpur organized online negotiations between the leadership of the Uztekstilprom Association and the MTMA, during which the parties discussed issues of further development of trade, economic, and investment cooperation in the clothing industry.

The Malaysian side was informed about Uzbekistan Textile Expo, an international exhibition of the textile and fashion industry, organized on May 27-29 to disseminate this information among its members and ensure their participation in the work of this event.

MTMA President, Dato Sri Tan Thian Poh, appreciated the reforms being carried out in the republic aimed at increasing the share of finished garments in the export of light industry products and introducing high-tech lines in this industry.

He said that Uzbekistan's becoming a member of the GSP + system of preferences of the European Union deserves special attention, which will undoubtedly allow the country to double the number of goods supplied duty-free to the EU countries and contribute to the active involvement of Malaysian textile enterprises in the implementation of joint promising investment projects in the garment industry in the country.

As a result of the event, agreements were reached on increasing the volume of exports of textile products to Malaysia by establishing expanding partnerships between the business circles of the two countries in this area, as well as attracting potential Malaysian companies to create new manufactures of finished garments.

Founded in 1973, MTMA is the national textile industry association of Malaysia, which includes virtually all manufacturing and trading companies in the country's garment industry. MTMA is also known as the Federation of Malaysian Fashion, Textiles, and Apparels.
