Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are coordinating the issue of introducing a unified electronic system for issuing visas for entry and stay in the countries included in the Silk Road zone (at the initial stage - Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan), Trend reports referring to Kazakh media.
According to the Ministry of Culture of Kazakhstan, Silk Road Visa has every opportunity to become an “Asian’ analog of the Schengen visa for the countries of the Silk Road.
“The document will help to overcome visa, customs, and border barriers when tourists cross the borders of neighboring states,” the Kazakh ministry said.
Also, the ministry reported that two consular consultations and four meetings of the working group on the implementation of the Silk Road Visa e-visa project were held with the Uzbek side.
As a result of the negotiations, the regulation on the multiple-entry electronic tourist visa Silk Road Visa and a single list of countries whose citizens will be able to apply for an electronic visa were agreed.
At the same time, legal and technical issues such as the integration of information systems, joint financing of the project, including the definition of a single consular fee, and the conclusion of an intergovernmental agreement for the full implementation of the project are still under discussion.
“According to the plan, under favorable circumstances, the work will be completed by the end of this year,” the ministry said.
