Uzbekistan, Tajikistan to increase investment projects number in agro-industrial sector

Uzbekistan and Tajikistan reached an agreement on cooperation to expand the portfolio of investment projects in the agro-industrial sector, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

The mentioned issue was discussed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov and the Chairman of the Sughd Region of Tajikistan Rajabboy Ahmadzod during their meeting.

It is reported that the parties also discussed a wide range of issues of multifaceted Uzbek-Tajik cooperation, paying special attention to the spheres of interregional interaction and cooperation in the field of agriculture.

It was noted that following a high-level visit to Tajikistan in June of this year, agreements were reached between the administrations of the regions of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on the implementation of 30 joint projects worth about $100 million and about 250 trade contracts worth $300 million.

The parties expressed their commitment to active interaction in the implementation and promotion of agreed projects, while voicing their readiness for further joint work to expand investment, trade and economic cooperation between the regions of the two states.

In particular, an agreement was reached on the development of a medium-term program of interregional cooperation based on the competitive advantages of various areas of the two countries.

Also, the prospects for deepening in the field of agriculture were considered, including a significant potential for increasing mutual supplies of fruits and vegetables and agricultural crops.

In addition, the importance of establishing direct interaction between educational and scientific institutions of the agrarian sector of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in order to carry out mutual exchange and implementation of scientific developments in the fields of seed growing, cotton growing, animal husbandry, viticulture and other areas was emphasized.

Moreover, an agreement was also reached on cooperation to expand the portfolio of investment projects in the agro-industrial sector - specific investment proposals were considered, further actions for their development and implementation were outlined.
